An Early College Awareness Initiative
Board of Directors
Gina Coleman: President/Executive Director
gcoleman@questforcollege.org
Gina Coleman is Associate Dean of Students and former Associate Director of Admission/Director of Diversity Recruitment at
Williams
College, where she has worked since 1997. Originally from the
South Bronx, Dr. Coleman earned her B.A. in English from Williams in 1990, her M.Ed. from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in 2001, and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007.
In her time at Williams, Coleman developed a comprehensive diversity recruitment program for the College; further increasing enrollment of domestic students of color to a percentage that mirrors the composition of the national per capita and that rivals that of any selective college in the country. While working for the Office of Admission, her efforts helped Williams attain a top-15 ranking in Black Enterprise Magazine among the Top Colleges & Universities for African Americans. Williams was one of only two colleges in the Northeast (along with Harvard) to achieve that distinction.
In addition to her service to incoming college students, Coleman has demonstrated a continued commitment to early college awareness programs. As an alumna of A Better Chance, a nationally recognized program that gives gifted minority students the opportunity to attend some of the country’s finest secondary schools, Coleman is personally invested in the efforts of such educational outreach programs. Coleman annually teaches a course at Williams geared toward early college awareness initiatives in
Berkshire
County. Utilizing the “Quest for College” board game, Coleman and her students help expose college-bound students to the many possibilities available to them through higher education. The course is taught in partnership with MCLA and
Berkshire
Community College.
